Notes: I was surfing Ventura County Line with my buddy Dez Fafara of Coal Chamber/DevilDriver fame— the spot can be a bit localized, but we had connections. This sign was beside the road above the surf spot— absolutely nobody paid attention to it, as plenty of brews were being consumed in the parking lot. That’s fine for people who have a normal relationship with alcohol, but I am not one of those people. Surfing is super important in my life now— it’s one of my favorite things of all time— but I never took it seriously until I got sober. Looking at this photo reminds me of how I must place my sobriety first above everything else in my life— anything else good I have, including surfing, will disappear if I drink. First things first!
