Notes: During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I did a lot of walking around the city at night, sometimes alone and sometimes with a close friend or two. Businesses were closed and the streets were empty, so I did a lot of photography missing my usual favorite subject matter— human beings. One March night, immediately as most things were being shut down, I was out with my buddy Matt when we spied this spider web beneath an apartment building lamp. I remember thinking “What a strange web we are caught in right now... no one really knows what’s happening.” I shot the photo and walked away, hoping this strange unknown spider called COVID wouldn’t kill us all. Most of us made it out alive— rest in peace to those who didn’t.
